How to Prepare Your Home for Fall Market Success

For most people looking to buy one of the new homes in Grand Forks ND, their existing home needs to be sold first. While the fall housing market isn’t as robust as the spring and summer market, the buyers tend to be more intent and on a tighter schedule. This works in your favor and is why you need to make sure your home stands out for all of the best reasons. Here are some tips to give your home the best chance.

First impressions matter and your home’s curb appeal is part of that first impression. Obviously you should make sure the exterior of your home is clean and looks maintained, and keep your walkways and any steps clear and safe. You also need to maintain your yard. Keep on top of raking leaves, and trim back any bushes and perennials so that they look neat and cared for. To add some color and charm, add some pots of mums and colorful gourds, and consider a simple seasonal wreath for the door.

As the weather cools, turn up the heat in your home – literally. Before a showing, bump up the heat a few degrees if you tend to keep it cooler, just enough to feel welcoming. Don’t turn it up too high, though, because viewers are likely to still be wearing their coats and you don’t want them to get too hot and be in a hurry to leave.

Make sure your windows are clean, and open any curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. On darker days, especially as the days get shorter, turn on lots of lights to make your home look warm and inviting, even during the day. If you have cool bulbs in your lamps and overhead lights, swap them out for warm bulbs to create a more comfortable atmosphere.

Make sure your floors and carpets are clean and ready for any surprise showings. Try to make sure everything is clean and tidy before going to bed so that you don’t have much to do in the morning. This way you can leave your house each day knowing it’s ready for any potential buyers to visit. If you have pets, make sure there’s a plan in place for them during any showings. You may also want to keep a mat next to the door for dirty or wet shoes and boots.

With all of that done, make sure you set your price realistically from the start. Buyers at this time of year tend to know the current market well and may not want to deal with a lot of haggling over price, because they want to act quickly.

Because buyers at this time of year tend to be motivated, you may not have to wait long to sell your home. To help you find your ideal home among the new homes in Grand Forks ND, reach out and contact us today to learn about our beautiful new Grand Valley community.
