September Events in Grand Forks

Summer is over and school is back in, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. There are plenty of great September events for residents of the homes in Grand Forks. Potato festivals, music festivals, and marathons are just some of the options to keep you active and entertained this month. Mark your calendars and get ready for plenty of Grand Forks fun.

This weekend, be sure to check out the Greenway Takeover Festival. This music festival takes place September 13-16 on The Greenway, just north of the Sorlie Memorial Bridge in downtown Grand Forks. Visitors will be treated to music from local, regional, and even national headlining acts. The festival also features a food truck alley, beer sales, picnic areas, and games for the kids, as well as the adults. Along with great music and a happy vibe, the festival serves up a true community spirit. Take your folding chairs and blankets and be ready move to the fantastic music, complemented with a great stage, sound system and light show. Each day brings something new to enjoy.

It’s time once again for the 53rd Annual Potato Bowl USA. This week of festivities runs September 18-22 at various locations throughout Grand Forks. Back in 1966, the very first Potato Bowl football game was played at Memorial Stadium, billed as a battle between two of the largest potato growing regions in the country (Idaho and the Red River Valley). From there, the idea grew to create a week of festivities celebrating potatoes and football. This year, the Potato Bowl is coinciding with UND Homecoming. Festivities include the French Fry Feed, a golf tournament, fireworks, parades, tailgating, and much more.

Finally, get limbered up for the 2018 Wild Hog Grand Forks Marathon. Taking place over the weekend of September 28-29, this is more than just a marathon; it’s a chance for the whole family to get involved and have fun. The festivities kick off on Friday with a Family Fun Night that includes live hog races and a 5K run/walk, and a pasta party for some excellent carbo-loading for the next day. On Saturday, there will be a 10K, 1/2 marathon and full marathon. After all of the races, there will be a celebration of all who took part at Wild Hog, featuring live entertainment and food.

These are just some of the events taking place this month. Residents of the homes in Grand Forks have plenty of trivia nights, farmers markets and even car shows to enjoy this month, as well as a variety of other entertainment to appeal to young and old.
